Uncorked Asheville

Start Your Day Off Right, A New Coffee/Wine Bar, & Step Into A Painting

Good Morning Reader,

This past week has been gorgeous, and we recently enjoyed lunch at Wicked Weed, beer outside at RAD Brewing (we said hi to Julia at Master BBQ), and a walk around the North Asheville Tailgate Market.

I had to dip into the new Moxy Hotel - their rooftop restaurant is on our to-try list - and it is gorgeous. We finally made it into Auction House and The Old Haywood Filling Station, too. Keep reading...

๐ŸดUpdated for 2025, these are just a few of our favorite Asheville breakfast spots: ๐Ÿฅฏ

๐Ÿฅš Five Points - A family-owned, Montford-area Greek diner; I love a good diner

๐Ÿฅ“ Abejaโ€™s House Cafรฉ - Our pick for a Latin and American breakfast, lunch, and everything in between on Hendersonville Road

๐Ÿฅž The Smokin' Onion - A West Asheville vegan eatery with my favorite pancakes and sweets

๐Ÿณ Sunny Point Cafe - A West Asheville hot spot, and similarly, we enjoy Montford's All Day Darling

โ˜• Liberty House Cafe - Located in North Asheville's "wellness center," we appreciate their simple eats along with their vegan Pulp & Sprout neighbor; both are great stops after an Asheville Salt Cave session

๐Ÿฅ™ Green Sage - With locations across Asheville, we grab a quick bite on the run, selecting from their healthy and organic smoothies and bowls

We and our readers also enjoy Mother, The Med, Ultra CoffeeBar, Flour, and Early Girl Eatery.

Sip Coffee Or Wine At The Old Haywood Filling Station

Latte and Wine Tasting

โœจ Coffee and wine/beer in a former gas station run by the nicest people who share all their wine?! Yes, please! ๐Ÿฅ‚

I cannot tell you how many messages I received about The Old Haywood Filling Station - thank you!! John and Max kept us well hydrated.

What a sweet Mills River coffee shop and wine/beer bar! Itโ€™s a gem. In 1958, The Old Haywood Filling Station was Gasperson's Grocery and gas station. Today, try new wines or get some work done with coffee. We tasted so many wines (arenโ€™t those tasters adorable?!), and Somm John brought out a unique white Pinot Noir. ๐Ÿท

They have Thursday tastings with fun pairings, and they pair wines and beers with their rotating food trucks. I love the cozy indoor seating and that back patio with Tuscan lights.

They are busier on weekends, but weekdays are a great time to stop in. For visitors, they are near the airport. โœˆ๏ธ They've also built a terrific community of regulars.

Step Into A Painting In Greenville, SC

If you missed Biltmore Estate's immersive art experience, it's not too late to catch an exhibit in Greenville, SC. Both Tom and I enjoyed Beyond Van Gogh just slightly more than Van Gogh Alive (which was also amazing); they are different.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Beyond Van Gogh (& Beyond Monet) | Prices vary by type of ticket & exhibit/combo (we purchased Van Gogh flex tickets)

๐Ÿ“Greenville Convention Center | Exhibition Drive | 1 hour 20 minutes from Asheville, NC; we paid $10 to park at the convention center

I loved the artwork dripping and reflecting onto the ground, which felt incredibly realistic and sometimes a little spooky. The blinking portraits got me. ๐Ÿ˜‚

They have gorgeous banners and an exhibit filled with quotes and background information on the artists. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŽจ Thereโ€™s also a gift shop and coloring station (look at the ones hanging up - some are funny), making this perfect for families. I just loved it.

Terrific Space & Bourbon Cocktails: Auction House Food Hall

We finally made it to the Auction House Food Hall. I most enjoyed the indoor and outdoor space along with their bourbon cocktail bar.

Our food was OK. Tom had tacos at Mercado Cantina, and I ordered a massive fish sandwich from Fish Camp Twenty-Five. His tacos were doused in heat, which tried to hide the blandness. What my fish sandwich lacked in flavor was made up for in quantity and quality. The fries were great.

We shared a stellar maple Old Fashioned from Blue Collar. Get a cherry or two. I still need to try a burger ๐Ÿ” and order some coffee โ˜•๏ธ. Itโ€™s a great space for digital nomads during the weekday, and if you loved your food, please tell me what to try next.

Namaste in Nature Updates

โ€‹Ceiara Cartony recently took over Namaste in Nature after working there since 2019 (the company was established in 2017). She reached out about their current yoga offerings, and I wanted to share all of her great information to give them a boost; Helene influenced some of their current programs (like their on-pause Craggy Gardens mirco retreat).

Right now, Namaste in Nature is offering:

  • Public micro retreats, Friday to Sunday, at their two waterfall locations: Catawba Falls, Refreshing Waterfall Yoga Micro Retreat, and Toms Creek Falls, Mindful Waterfall Yoga Micro Retreat; they're the first two Micro Retreats listedโ€‹ here.
  • Private group tours any day of the week (use their contact form; this goes for Private Group Yoga at your rental or place of stay/public park setting).
  • Starting soon: Saturdays & Sundays, April through October, Yoga in the Park with more info for everything here: FB / IG Yoga in the Park Asheville & FB / IG Namaste in Nature

Tom and I are hoping to join some of their Yoga in the Park classes this spring. Maybe we'll see you there!

Upcoming

March is the month of doctors' appointments. Rheumatologist, GI, Endocrinologist - you name it. I'm also headed to AVL Open MRI and Imaging for the first time. I need a CT Scan for my thyroid eyes, which are getting pretty bad. I've only done imaging at Mission (it was great) and Advent ER ($$$ because... the ER), so hopefully, it's a pleasant experience.

Our Asheville 2025 foodie bucket list is growing, and we cannot wait to get back into hiking season. Uncorked Asheville has been a little food-heavy lately, but Graves' Disease completely took me out physically for all of our hiking, biking, skating, and yoga activities. I'm working on it. I also burn calories like it's my full-time job with my thyroid going.

We are looking forward to brunch at Chestnut - it's been so long!
