In a rush? See what Asheville breweries to visit this year. Good Morning Reader, Heading to Greenville, SC this week, we drove through light smoke as ash hit our car. The fires across the Upstate and Western North Carolina are forcing evacuations in specific areas. Containment is continuing to happen for many as we get further into the week. However, new fires keep starting. Air quality is terrible in certain areas. Buncombe County is code "Red" (unhealthy) this Friday. Here in Asheville, we have no active fires at the time of writing this (3/28/25), but you can see smoke in the distance from fires in Henderson and other Buncombe County areas. These fires are devastating to see, especially just six months after Helene. Our hearts go out to everyone. Stay safe. For area locals or if you have a second residence here: Due to the quickly changing nature of the fires, I recommend following your county and city’s Facebook pages along with the local fire department. I always have my iPhone government emergency notifications turned on and am signed up for BC & AVL Alerts (remember those daily boil water advisories we silenced weeks in from the city?!). People are seeking help & resources in local FB groups as well. Quick Facebook pages to follow for breaking news:
Hidden Gem & Visitor "Must" Breweries In AshevilleAsheville is open and needs you. Another industry hard hit by Helene: the breweries. Let's show them some love. Burger from White Labs (vegan cheese), Cuban at Hillman Beer (Asheville), Outsider's brewing vessels, RAD Brewing beer, Hi-Wire Biltmore Village, and Highland Brewing flight It pained me to rewrite our AVL brewery article post-Helene. I’m looking forward to Zillicoah Beer Co., 12 Bones Smokehouse *River,* and Wedge’s *Foundation Studios* reopening. Zillicoah has been dropping online hints that they will be back soon. I cannot wait. What a comeback. We lost a few of our favorites to Helene, like 7 Clans, and for now, Rye Knot has decided to focus on distilling. Catawba Brewing announced they will not renew their South Slope lease. It is still unclear if Hi-Wire’s RAD Beer Garden will reopen, but their Biltmore Village and South Slope taprooms are going strong. Wicked Weed, Highland, New Belgium, Burial, Hi-Wire, and Green Man are the must-visit, popular breweries for first-time visitors. Sierra Nevada is... Sierra Nevada... Then, for "lesser-known" gems, I enjoy RAD Brewing, White Labs, Hillman, Whistle Hop, Cellarest, and Diatribe. Outside of Asheville, Burning Blush has my heart. Ecusta is fun after outdoor adventuring, and Frog Level Brewing Co. is another favorite (connected with former 7 Clans). As a half-Celiac household, we also have a list of breweries serving gluten-reduced beer in Asheville made 100% from our experiences and research at every brewery we visit.

Lady Whistledown Of AshevilleIn Asheville news:
It's Rock Concert Time...Unfortunately, I'm down for the count in a severe ulcerative colitis (UC) flare. After bombing my scopes, I will be switching medications ASAP and riding the Prednisone train for a while. I'm heartbroken and hoping for relief. I'm not sure how much work or adventuring I'll be doing, but I always try. If the Prednisone kicks in, I will want to eat ALL the things and run 20 marathons. When high-dose Prednisone is coursing through me, it also brings out the Connecticut a$$h*ole innate to my core being; I have to be extra mindful on social media with all of the trolls. Back to my angry rock concert phase. *Peruses the Bon Secours season.* I had a CT scan at Open MRI & Imaging of Asheville. It's close to Mission. If you ever have to go for a scan, I had a great experience. It's a 'lil kitsch right now as their machines are in a trailer outside with a lift up... but I was in and out in 30 minutes. If you've been to Quest, also on Biltmore Ave., you know it is equally... kitschy. On my way out of Quest, a woman asked if I thought that Quest location was OK; she was 100% ready to turn around and run for it. I don't blame her. It is dated/bleh, but they get the job done. Their staff is nice. UpcomingI'm hoping we can see the Tut exhibit at Biltmore soon and report back. Plus, those gorgeous blooms are out. I'm watching all the websites to see what local trails are re-opening to report back, and I really want to get to those small mountain towns like Marshall and Hot Springs. The Bradford pears are blooming in full force - how did these beautiful, evil trees survive Helene?! - and my face hates them. Talk about allergies.
